Nails Inc "New King's Road"

Hello everybody. Today's post will be short and sweet as I have had a migraine all day and am feeling a bit feeble.

Nails Inc "New King's Road", a navy creme shot through with greeny gold glass fleck shimmer. Stunning formula, stunning colour, not so easy to photograph - it is more sparkly to the naked eye.

Jade "Vermelho Surreal"

Hi folks! Today I am wearing my first and only Jade polish, "Vermelho Surreal". It is a linear holographic polish in a gorgeous russet-toned red shade. The rainbow is intense and evident in most lighting situations, and it is very, very shiny! It's also quite sparkly compared to my other holographic polishes. I used "Aqua Base" as my base coat and applied two coats of polish, which covered flawlessly.

Pictures show two coats with no top coat (look how shiny!!):

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor! I have to say thank you to Samina, from whom I bought this beauty!

What do you think? This is totally unique in my collection and I am absolutely in love with it.

OPI "Which Is Witch?" & Models Own "Beth's Blue"

New polish baby for AnnaBean today wooo!! Namely, OPI "Which Is Witch?" from their recently-released "Great And Powerful Oz" collection. This is the only polish that I bought from the collection, as the rest just don't float my boat. It's a clear base packed full of silver holographic particles in varying shapes and sizes: hexes, squares, and strands; medium, small, and absolutely teeny weeny! It's truly beautiful, so sparkly, and applies really well. I chose to apply one coat over Models Own "Beth's Blue", a pale yet vibrant periwinkle blue creme and my absolute favourite Models Own polish of all time!

These pictures show one coat of "Which Is Witch?" over two coats of "Beth's Blue", with base & top coat:

And here is a shot of "Beth's Blue" on its own, two coats, no top coat:

Have you picked up any from OPI's Great And Powerful Oz collection? And how about Models Own, do you like their polishes?

Nails Inc "Oakley Street"

Hi lovely people of the internet! I have a somewhat "unconventional" polish to show you today. Nails Inc "Oakley Street" is a sort of mustardy camel coloured creme polish, and the sort of "ugly" shade that I really love! I've wanted it for a long time and finally managed to snag it fairly recently at a bargainous price from a lovely lady named Sarah (thank you Sarah!). Formula was fine, typical Nails Inc creme two coat perfection!

Pictures show two coats plus base & top coat:

What do you think about shades like this? Do you like them or are they just plain ugly to you? I think they are actually very elegant and flattering, and this one is definitely a new addition to my favourites list!

Barry M "Ridley Road" Textured Nail Paint

If you know me at all, you would know how reticent I've been to jump on the "textured nails" band wagon. I can't stand Nails Inc's leather effect polishes, not fussed with their concrete ones either, and you'd have to sedate me to get the OPI Liquid Sand polishes on my nails. However, there is something about Barry M's new range of textured nail paints that has beguiled me, and I think it's the combination of the texture with the pastel shades they come in. I have been itching to try at least one of them just to see what all the fuss is about. I chose "Ridley Road", a pale aqua shade. It was unproblematic to apply, if a little patchy in places. I have applied two coats and they are just enough to cover adequately. It feels a bit rough to the touch, especially along the tips of my nails, and as it dries it becomes less shiny and more textured.

Pictures show two coats with base coat but no top coat:

What do you think about all the different textures around in the polish world currently? I can't say I've fallen in love with this one but I am willing to give it the benefit of doubt - if nothing else, I really love the colour.

Ornate Nail Art

Hello world! I'm delighted to say the problems which have blighted my laptop for the past week or so seem to have disappeared today!

"Matchy Matchy!" week over at All Things Nails ends tomorrow, and I chose this evening to apply my final matchy matchy manicure. I like to think I saved the best 'til last! Using Nails Inc "Baker Street", I stamped an ornate design from Bundle Monster plate BM20 which is a very close match for the pattern on another of my favourite mugs, over a base of OPI "Alpine Snow".

What do you think? Is it a good match? I had to double stamp all nails because the design wasn't big enough to cover in one go, so it's not really very neat, but I am nevertheless quite proud of it!

OPI "Who The Shrek Are You?"

Suddenly blogging has become rather stressful for me. My laptop is seemingly on its last legs and so the simplest of tasks take ages and cause a lot of hassle: it's taken me the best part of an hour and a half just to watermark three photographs. I really hope it doesn't become too much of a hurdle to overcome, but if things carry on like this I may be forced to blog with less frequency, a thought which makes me very sad indeed.

Anyway, let us not dwell on that for now! Today's manicure is OPI "Who The Shrek Are You?", a bright but dirty green creme polish, what I'd call a "battery acid" colour but also, obviously, the colour of "Shrek", that lovable giant ogre. Formula was quite problematic - watery and streaky - so I have had to apply three coats for full opacity.

Pictures show three coats plus base & top coat:

The reason I chose to wear this polish today is because it is a perfect match for the newest addition to my treasured collection of mugs (a gift from someone very important in my life) - and yes, I bought the polish for that sole purpose!! Beside the fact that I love the colour, of course :)

What do you think about this colour? Is it something you would wear on your nails?

Color Club "Eternal Beauty"

I have the second of my modest Color Club Halo Hues nail mail to show you today! "Eternal Beauty" is perfectly named - it's an absolutely stunning, vivid purple linear holographic polish. I said all that needs to be said about Color Club's Halo Hues yesterday, so as this post will be quite picture heavy, I'll keep the words to a minimum!

Color Club "Cosmic Fate"

A little break from matchy matchy today, as I have a new baby to show you! I received a little bit of nail mail this morning, in the form of two of Color Club's 2013 Halo Hues collection, and a sweet little gift from my lovely Hayley, which was a mini bottle of OPI "I Lily Love You". I decided to try one of the Color Clubs first, so here it is!

"Cosmic Fate" is a warm peachy pink colour with a very strong, amazingly vivid linear holographic finish. The fantastic thing about the Color Club Halo Hues is that, despite being linear holographic polishes (which are notoriously high maintenance), they are easy to apply, there is no need for Aqua Base (or similar) - you can use your regular base coat, and top coat doesn't dull the effect (there is an initial reaction when top coat is first applied but the holographic effect reappears completely and rapidly, within minutes).

Pictures show two coats with Orly Bonder base coat; the first is with top coat (Nubar Diamont), the second and third are without.

What do you think? Aside from the obviously beautiful rainbow colours, I think this is a really pretty colour even in low light, it reminds me of rose gold.

Nails Inc "Haymarket"

Following on from yesterday's post, I have another "matchy matchy" manicure for you today. The polish in question is Nails Inc "Haymarket", which I suppose could be described as a light pastel duck-egg green creme. Formula is flawless - wonderfully pigmented and opaque, and easy to apply. Dries to a slightly matte "rubber" finish, so top coat is a must.

Pictures show two coats plus base & top coat:

(Daylight-simulating lamp)

And what does it match with, I hear you ask? Well quite a lot actually, but my chosen match today is a jewellery box:

OPI "Tomorrow Never Dies"

Hello! It's "Matchy Matchy!" week at All Things Nails and I am in my element (if you need any more evidence of my love for matching things with my nail polish, then read this post)! So today's manicure (and quite a few for the following week) was picked for its matchy matchy potential. OPI "Tomorrow Never Dies" is an amazingly beautiful vibrant, electric purple shimmer. Formula is a bit brush stroke-prone but otherwise problem free. The colour is difficult to photograph though, it's more purple and even more electric in reality.

Pictures show two coats plus base & top coat.

And here it is matching my purple satin and beaded shoes, which I have only worn once in the three years I've owned them!!

Nfu.Oh "64"

The sun was shining gloriously today and that can mean only one thing - holo time!!! More specifically, Nfu.Oh "64". I think it's one of those polishes which must be allowed to speak for itself, so I will tell you only that I applied two coats over Nfu.Oh's "Aqua Base" base coat with no top coat, and photographed in sunlight which was slightly diffused through a frosted glass window.

Picture time!

Do you have any of the Nfu.Oh holographic polishes? I only have two, and will likely only ever own those two - they were one of those "once in a lifetime" purchases, and I guard them with my life!

Zoya "Song"

Sometimes, I just don't know what on Earth to paint my nails with. I do actually try and plan in advance, usually a week or two at a time, but lately I haven't really felt all that inspired. So, to help me choose, I a cast a poll on the All Things Nails Facebook page, giving a small selection of polishes, and asked all the lovely members to vote for one of them. There was a clear winner, and here it is.....

Zoya "Song" is a vibrant royal blue with flashy glass fleck shimmer. It's so sparkly that it's *almost* on the verge of being a glitter, but not quite. Unfortunately that sparkly aspect doesn't really let itself be shown in photographs unless it's in bright, full sunshine, which my pictures are not*. The formula is thick and a bit lumpy, but easy peasy to apply.

Pictures show two coats plus base & top coat:

*(EDIT: I woke up early today and was able to take advantage of the morning sun - here is a sun-lit shot)

What do you think? It's one of my (admittedly many) favourite blue polishes, and if I'm completely honest, I was kind of hoping this would win the vote ;)

OPI "Black Cherry Chutney"

There are probably a million other blogs already with swatches and descriptions of "Black Cherry Chutney", so forgive me for adding to them, but it's what I've got on my nails and it's all you'll be getting from me today! Shall we let the pictures do the talking?

Two coats, plus base & top coat:

What do you think? It's one of my favourite polishes ever. Ever!!

Barry M "Watermelon" Gelly Nail Paint

Hello! Supderdrug online have recently been offering free delivery on all orders, and as Barry M polishes were on 3 for 2 at the same time, I decided to treat myself to a few. They arrived yesterday, and I am wearing one of them today! Barry M "Watermelon" is from their first collection of Gelly Nail Paints (released last year). It's a deep, blue-toned green creme and, yes, it is exactly the colour of watermelon rind! Great two coat formula and very, very shiny - my pictures here are without top coat!

(Sunlight)

(Daylight-simulating lamp)

I then went and ruined it. I tried to stamp over it using one the full nail designs on my new Bundle Monster plates, but my nails are too long, so I had to double stamp most of them which I failed at, and very curved, so I had trouble getting the design on the corners of my nails. However, I am still learning, and although this is a mess, I will still share it, so that you can follow my progress! I used Barry M "Gold Foil Effects" for the stamping.

Valentine's Nail Art with Boots 17 "Sweet Kisses"

Hi folks! All this week on All Things Nails is "Romance & Roses" theme week, in honour of it being Valentine's Day tomorrow. I care not for Valentine's Day, but I can never turn down an opportunity for some themed nail painting! So today I have for you my "official" Valentine's manicure.

I started out with three coats of Boots 17 "Sweet Kisses", a very pretty pale, cool-toned pink creme with the worst formula:

And then I pretty much went mental! I used two designs from two different plates (the roses from a generic cheapie thing and the hearts from Bundle Monster, plate BM08), and stamped them on using Nails Inc "Monmouth Street". It's vomitous, and while I love over-the-top things, it's even a bit much for me to stomach. In a strange way though I really quite like it, and there's no denying it's topical!

Have you painted your nails for Valentine's Day? Do you even celebrate it? This is the most romantic I will be getting!

No.7 "Devils Delight"

I have for you today another of the mini No.7 polishes that my friend Claire gave me. "Devils Delight" is a very vibrant, bright, cool-toned red, with that typical saturated red polish formula - mostly creme but sort of jelly. Thankfully it was pigmented enough to only need to two coats, which is something that troubles me with some reds - major VNL and the need for too many coats for me to bother. It was smooth and easy to apply, but my nail painting skills abandoned me completely today and I flooded a few of my cuticles, and made even more of a mess trying to clean it up - my cuticles are extremely dry and the polish just soaked right into them - cleaning up made it look like a blood bath!!

Pictures show two coats plus base & top coat:

What do you think about red nails? Some people would call them trashy, I'm sure, but I don't give a damn, I think they're hot!!

China Glaze "Wagon Trail"

Hi everybody! Today's nail polish is one of those which really shouldn't be beautiful, but somehow is - extremely beautiful. It's China Glaze "Wagon Trail", a blackened olive green with golden shimmer. As you can see on my index finger nail especially, it suffers from bald spots, but I am willing to forgive that. Formula is otherwise problem-free.

Pictures show two coats, plus base & top coat.

What do you think? I don't know about you but I'm a huge fan of non-traditional nail colours!

Before I go, I would just like to mention something totally off-topic. As I mentioned in this post, I sponsored a dog with the Dogs Trust. I recently found out to my utter distress that my sponsor dog Leo has passed away, and I am heart broken. I never got to meet him but I loved him nonetheless, and I would like to share a picture of him, as a little tribute.

Rest in peace, Leo <3

Nails Inc "Warwick Street" & some more stamping.

It's late and I'm very tired, so I'll keep the words to a minimum! Nails Inc "Warwick Street", a milky, greyish white base full of rainbow micro glitter.

Two coats, plus base & top coat.

And here are a couple more attempts at stamping - this is Barry M "Denim" with some butterflies and flowers in Nails Inc "Park Cresecent":

And here is Nails Inc "Windsor" with some flowers in Models Own "Beth's Blue":

Rimmel "Hot Shot"

I was thinking recently and realised I haven't worn a proper pink nail polish for a long time, so I'm really happy to be rectifying that today. "Hot Shot" is from Rimmel's "I <3 Lasting Finish" range, and is a vibrant hot pink creme. It has a really nice formula - densely pigmented and easy to apply, thanks in no small part to the brush Rimmel uses in this range - it's similar to OPI's Pro-Wide brush but not quite as big. I find it really easy to use.

Pictures show two coats plus base & top coat.

Do you like pink nails? I have mixed feelings about them generally. There are some shades of pink which I don't really like, but thankfully this is not one of them - it's actually one of my favourites.
