Ciate "Mojito"

T'is time for another of my Ciate Mini Mani Month polishes! This little love is called "Mojito". Google tells me that a mojito is a cocktail containing rum, lime, and mint and other stuff - I don't drink, so no wonder I had to look it up! Anyway, the polish is, as I guess would be expected, a bright, zesty, lime green creme. It doesn't have the nicest formula - quite sheer and streaky, and mine had some blobs in it and a squiffy brush - so application was a bit tricky. Problems aside, it's a wonderful colour - really cheerful and uplifting, although I'm well aware it won't be everybody's cup of tea!

Three careful, conscientious coats here, plus base & top coats (Orly Bonder & Sec N Dry).

What do you think? Is it the sort of colour you'd wear? It's put me in a playful, fun-loving mood, so much so that I've been searching the house for some matchy matchy, and ta dah! This is what I found:
Socks!

Apple juice carton!

There were many more, but I don't want to overwhelm you ;)

Well that, pretty much, is that - final blog post of 2012! Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you next year :) x

Nails Inc "Redcliffe Road"

I don't really have very much else to talk about today, so I will just get straight to the point. Today's manicure comes to you courtesy of my generous gift-giving family - it is another of my Christmas presents. It is Nails Inc "Redcliffe Road", an absolutely gorgeous blackberry colour with a creme finish. So dark it could almost be black, but not quite. I wasn't too struck on the formula, but for a colour like this I'm willing to forgive tricky application. I have two coats here plus base & top coats (Orly Bonder & Sec N Dry).

Not that I really match my nail polish to the seasons, but I do think it's an absolutely perfect colour for winter. If you are fond of Nails Inc's classic shade "Victoria", you might like this one too - similar colour, different finish.

Well thanks for reading, and please come back again soon :) x

OPI "Pirouette My Whistle" & Ciate "Angel Wings"

Hello dears, and happy Saturday! Are you all getting back to some sort of normality now that Christmas is pretty much done with? I don't know about you, but I always feel a bit weird at this time of year - I never know whether I'm coming or going, what day it is, what date it is - I live in a bit of a fog of confusion until the middle of January! Anyway, I have what I think is a very pretty, wintry manicure to show you today. I was aiming for the look of snow and was somewhat successful!

I started with a base of Ciate "Angel Wings", a very delicate, sheer white pearlescent polish, of which I applied three coats. I then added one coat of OPI "Pirouette My Whistle", and finished with topcoat. It created a really ethereal, snowy look to my nails which, unfortunately, is very difficult to photograph! But here it is anyway.

(Daylight lamp)

(Camera flash)

So what do you think, does it remind you of snow? Something else? I must admit, this is very understated for me, and I really rather love it!

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

Ciate "Enchanted Rose"

Hello everybody! I have another polish from my Ciate Mini Mani Month advent calendar to show you today (I'm so behind, there are quite a few I still haven't even tried yet!). It's name is "Enchanted Rose", and it is a red glitter polish in a clear base. The glitter particles are a mixture of shapes and sizes and not too densely packed, so it makes for a great layering polish. I have two coats here over a plain red polish (Nails Inc "Rosary Gardens"), and I absolutely love it!

Here is a shot of Nails Inc "Rosary Gardens" in case you are unfamiliar with it. Two coats.

If you read this post, you will know that I wore Nails Inc "Southwark" yesterday. Well, because I'm me I simply had to faff with it. I added two coats of another of my Christmas present polishes, 2True Glitterati Polish in "Shade 3" (imaginative name, huh??). It's a sheer blue jelly with all kinds of beautiful glitters and sequins in it. I can't do it justice with a verbal description, so I'll just let the picture speak for itself!

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

Nails Inc, China Glaze, Caviar, and a Disaster!

We'll get the disaster over and done with first. I had the most clumsy day on Christmas eve and ended up breaking two nails in two separate incidents and having to file them all down to match - twice!! So my nails are now the shortest they've been for many a month and I took the opportunity to photograph them for basically my own purposes, but also to highlight how short they are (to me at least) and how stained they are. Not that I ever would leave the house with bare nails, but now I couldn't even if I wanted to - the ultimate polish addict's self-fulfilling prophecy! Don't get used to seeing them naked, by the way, this is a once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence ;)

Anyway, on to the pretties!

Matchy Matchy!

Good morning! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas day* and aren't too full of turkey and mince pies? This is a special, scheduled post for you all to enjoy today. As some of my friends know, I love finding things that match which ever nail polish I'm wearing on any given day. Sometimes it occurs spontaneously; sometimes I know I have an object in the house which will match; and occasionally, I go out of my way to find something - anything - that will match. So today's post will be one of many matchy matchy-themed specials.

Continue reading for the full view of this and more matchy matchy madness!

Merry Christmas!

Or happy last full week in Decmber if you don't celebrate Christmas!

Today I would like to share with you my proper Christmas manicure - festive green and red water marbling! I love water marbling. I don't like the mess and the time and wastage, but I love the finished article.  If you get it right (and it took me a long time and many failures to finally get the hang of it) it can be spectacular. For this look I used Nails Inc colours - a base of "Cambridge Terrace" (silver) with "Villiers Street" (red) and "Emerald Street" (green).

(My sincere apologies for the mess in the background!)

The nails on my right hand have very different patterning than what you see here - a conscious decision - but I'm afraid I fail at taking pictures of that hand!!

What do you think? Are they suitably Christmassy? If I may say so myself, I am actually quite proud of this manicure!

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon - I won't be posting on Christmas day, but I have something scheduled for the day after :) x

Disco, Disco, Disco, Disco....

....... "Disco Lane", from Nails Inc, is what I have to show you today. It's a black creme full of scattered holographic particles. Apparently it was designed to be a "black" version of their popular holographic topcoat "Electric Lane", or in other words give the look of that polish when it's applied over a black base. It was a good idea, but it is flawed. The addition of the holographic glitter to a coloured creme base creates a very gritty finish when dry, as is understandable. My pictures here show two coats of "Disco Lane" with a whoooole lot of top coat, and it still isn't completely smooth.

Despite its grittiness and thirst for top coat, I do actually like it a lot - in most light it just looks like a classic, sophisticated black, but when the light hits it right it comes alive and looks like stars twinkling in a clear night sky - and that makes me smile :)

Also. I haven't really felt in the mood for Christmas this year. Or for several years, for that matter. I left it until Thursday to put up our decorations, and I think finally seeing my tree in all its festive finery might have softened my heart a little bit - there's hope for this old misery guts yet! So I thought you might like to see it too....

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon - tomorrow I will be doing my official Christmas manicure, so watch this space :) x

Ciate "Magic Carpet"

Hi everybody! I did have today's blog all written and ready to go, but it was full of misery and self-pity so I deleted it and started all over again! I have yet another of my Ciate "Mini Mani Month" polishes to show you. It's called "Magic Carpet" and it is a lovely, glitzy, magenta glitter polish with particles of varying sizes. It's definitely not to be worn alone (unless you just want a smattering of glitter), so here I have two coats over a raspberry pink creme, with base and top coats.

Here is a shot of the aforementioned raspberry pink creme - it's Barbara Daly "Razzle", two coats.

By the way, if you think these photos look somehow "different", it's because I've got a new camera. I may or may not continue to use it for my blog - I am still getting used to it.

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

Favourites

I thought I'd have a little break from NOTD posts today and instead share with you some of my favourite manicures from recent months. They may not be the best manicures I've given myself in terms of technique/neatness etc., rather just for the polish itself (formula/colour/whatever).

This will be a fairly large post, so carry on reading after the jump for some proper beauts, including this one (can you guess what it is?).....

Nails Inc "Berwick Street Market"

Hello world! Boy do I have an absolute stunner of a polish to show you today. Following on from the past two days, it's another of my birthday presents: Nails Inc "Berwick Street Market". It's a spectacular magenta shimmer which is so reflective it dazzles me. It's like it's been given a dose of electricity. It also has a duochrome shift to a golden-toned burgundy when viewed at a very oblique angle.

Pictures show two coats plus base and top coats (Orly Bonder & Sec N Dry).

(With flash)

(Without flash - under daylight lamp)

(Highly unflattering angle to show the shift to burgundy)

Well there's really not much else I can say about this one, it leaves me a little bit speechless. I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I am enjoying wearing it!

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

It's Not Easy Being Green....

...... Except in this case, it is. I love green nail polish, and I have a beaut to show you today. Another of my birthday presents, it's from Nails Inc and is called "Baker's Row". It's a deep green slightly jelly base with small gold and green glitter particles and even smaller (like, tiny) blue glitter particles. With the semi sheer base, this makes for a truly fascinating, deep polish. It dries with quite a bit of texture which I actually quite like, as the glitter seems to catch the light even more. Here are two coats, plus base & top coats (Orly Bonder & Sec N Dry).  It was a tricky one to photograph, surprisingly - it's more vibrant and sparkly, and less blue-toned in reality.

This polish was really enjoyable to apply. Not just easy (which it was), but actually enjoyable. I can't quite explain myself! It reminds me of mermaids and frogs. Which is a good thing. I love frogs.

Well that's all folks, thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

Manicure FAIL!!

Gah!! Do you ever find yourself doing a manicure that just won't go right?? Well I do, regularly, and this is one of them. I just could not paint my nails to save my life and even once I'd finished I still managed to fudge it up (see middle finger nail)!! However, I love the colour and I want to share it as it was part of my birthday present, so here goes.... This is Nails Inc "Holly Hill", a bright, saturated, brick-red creme polish. I have two coats here, with base & top coats.

Well that's about all I have to say really. It's red. It's bright. I love it. Please don't hate my smudged nail!!

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

It's My Birthday.....

...... And I'll wear a different colour on every nail if I want to!!

I've been thinking about what to do for my birthday manicure for ages. All I could come up with was Christmassy stuff as my birthday has always been synonymous with Christmas (for obvious reasons), but I already have a proper Christmas manicure planned, and didn't want to go for overkill. However, it dawned on me just last week - in the autumn I purchased a few bottles of "Rainbow Sprinkles" (a multi-coloured, multi-sized, multi-shaped matte glitter topper) from JENsations, and every time I wear it people comment on how much it reminds them of birthday parties. So what better polish to use? I've teamed it here with a pastel skittle manicure, plus base & top coats.

Colours (in order from thumb to little finger): Nails Inc "Notting Hill Carnival"; Nails Inc "Oxford Circus"; Barry M Gelly Nail Paint "Prickly Pear"; Barry M Nail Paint "Blueberry Ice Cream"; Barry M Nail Paint "Mint Green". All topped off with a coat of JENsations "Rainbow Sprinkles", of course.

Hooray for birthday nails!! What do you think? Did I choose well? Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

Ciate "Headliner" and some Gems!

Hello! Today I have day 15 from my Ciate "Mini Mani Month" advent calendar, a shade named "Headliner". It's a vibrant teal green/blue, and here I have two coats with base & top coats (Orly Bonder & Sec N Dry).

It wasn't as difficult to photograph as I had anticipated, but my picture (on my monitor at least) still shows it as a little more blue than it is in reality. "Headliner" is another winner for me, it's so vibrant and happy, and it applied well, too. I don't have enough shades like this in my collection!

Aaaand..... Because I can never leave anything alone for long, I decided to do a quick ring-finger manicure with one coat of Milani "Gems". I think these two polishes work really well together!

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

Let's Get Carried Away!

Hello! Today I have a very interesting polish to show you, from China Glaze's recent collection in collaboration with the Cirque du Soleil. The polish in question is "Get Carried Away", and is a mix of tiny black and silver glitter, black strand glitter, and large hexagonal silver, black, and pink(ish) sequins, all suspended in a sheer smoky black base. Here I have two coats applied over a light grey creme (Nails Inc "The Southbank").

It took careful application to ensure a smooth finish and even distribution of glitter, but I think it's well worth the effort!

Here is "The Southbank" on its own (two coats, no topcoat).

This is another manicure that I'm really pleased with. Get Carried Away gives me the impression of graffiti, and especially over the grey base. It's very cool :)

Thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

Ciate "Glass Slipper"

Today's post features another polish from my Ciate advent calendar - this shade is a beautiful royal blue glitter called "Glass Slipper", and here I have two coats layered over a navy creme (Barielle "Berry Blue"), with base & top coats.

Below is a picture of Barielle "Berry Blue", in case you're not familiar with it. It's my favourite navy creme polish! Two coats here (no top coat, no clean-up).

I'm really pleased with this manicure. The dark base provides great depth to the over-all look. The only downside is that "Glass Slipper" really, reeeaallly stinks.

Thaks for reading, and come back soon :) x

Twilight, Advent Calendar, and Pressies!

Hello again! Today I have a couple of things to talk about. Firstly, I recently managed to get hold of the Ciate "Mini Mani Month" advent calendar. If you haven't come across this already, it's basically an advent calendar with a mini nail polish behind each door instead of a chocolate! I have had some lovely polishes so far, including what I'm wearing on my nails today - this shade is called "Twilight", and here I have two coats plus base & top coats (Orly Bonder and Sec N Dry). I really love it :)

The other thing I'd like to show you all is a lovely gift I received today. It was from my dear friend and fellow polish-addict Hayley, and here is what she so generously sent me:

From left to right, there is: A mini tube of L'Occitane Shea Butter hand cream; a mini bottle of Nails Inc Kensington Caviar top coat; a mini bottle of Nails Inc "Stratford"; full-size China Glaze "Get Carried Away"; and mini bottles of two matte Color Club shades - "Smoke & Mirrors" and "Dark Romance". I think you will all agree this was such a wonderful little package of goodies to receive, and I am so grateful to Hayley for sending them to me!

That's all for now folks, thanks for reading, and come back again soon :) x

My First Blog!

Hello! My name is Anna and this is my blog - thanks for stopping by! I am a 28 29 30 31 year old nail polish addict from Cornwall. I don't buy loads and loads of polish, and can't get my hands on every single new release, but I do paint my nails a different colour every day, so consider this my way of sharing what I'm wearing on a regular basis, and for other such nail -related stuff (with the occasional shaky attempt at nail art!).

So, what am I wearing on my nails today? It's Nails Inc "Saville Row", and here I have two coats plus base & top coat (Orly Bonder and Sec N Dry).

Well that will be all for now, I hope you enjoyed my little first post and that you come back again soon :) x
